Just as a treat for non-members, and because it is the last meeting before the AGM, we thought it would be nice to give a taster of what goes on at a Pens meeting. There is information about the upcoming AGM which might be of interest to everyone. Enjoy.
Scheduled as a Poetry biased meeting, we are always fluid in our expectation of course, but we were not disappointed with the offerings; not then we ever are, are we!
We had contributions from almost everyone, including our potential new member and welcome visitor, we hope that we created a good impression.
Topics ranged from Christmas Trees, to Remembrance, Memories of past lives, Family matters, an interesting retelling of Bible texts, Childhood fears manifest, Spiritual Guardians, to the Life and Love from a slightly Feminist perspective. You couldn’t choose such a range of things, all of them marvellous. When the poetry ran out there was plenty of other writing to share and on an equally wide range of topics. This is the beauty of a Pens meeting.
It was great to hear work from previous meetings, remember nothing should be consigned to the dusty back of the draw, all work has relevance no matter how old or out of season it may seem.
There was also discussion on the many up coming publications by members and we wish them all well in that area.
The next meeting will include the first official Pens AGM, it will be an informal but required discussion to formally appoint, or reappoint, the officials of the group, i.e. the Facilitator, Assistant Facilitator, Treasurer, and IT Guru. Some of these roles can be rolled in together, as they are now, but anyone with a burning desire to participate, please put yourselves forward to Jude or David before the meeting please. There will be a chance to question any aspect of the group and its running. If you need a detailed answer to any point, it might be helpful to let us have the question well before the meeting please.
The rest of the meeting will be far more fun with a Picture Round! Please bring up to 8 pictures with you, anything you like, cuttings from newspapers, magazines, your own artwork, old family favourites, (nothing of great value as we are not insured). We will then select 4 each without seeing what they are. Once we have all chosen, we will each be allowed to each reject one. From the remaining three, we will be inspired to write an outline, a written story board, that includes whatever is in those images. They may be people, places, events, objects, who knows; this is the fun and creative excitement of such a game. Then, if you feel inspired, that outline can be developed in your own time and who knows what will come from it! Thanks to Mike for the idea!
Have a great three weeks and we look forward to seeing you on the 6th February. We will remind members of the details for the next meeting, just before it.
