Pens Meeting Report 06 July 2016

Lots to look forward to plus great sharing makes for yet another positive meeting !

Our agenda for today was to discus the proposed programme for the next six months then share some of our writing. See the NEW PROGRAMME here but don’t miss out on the following news!

Unfortunately there were six apologies but it still left us with a vibrant group of members, all talented writers. The programme ably put together by Mike created and based on members suggestions, caused quite a lot of very positive discussion. There were a few swaps of content but it was very well received and all were excited about the next six months especially the topics for a number of workshops. There will be an opportunity for comments as we go but the meeting moved on to sharing of work.

Karen’s piece was called ‘The Plumber’s Van’ based on a true story about a family wedding, cars not turning up, Bride thinking she had been jilted groom thinking he been jilted too. It was poignant and very funny. anyway along comes the ‘plumber’s van the chap giving the bride away and the bride squeezed into the front with the driver and the three bridesmaids (one of them being Karen) sitting in the back of van with oily tools and a toilet  they arrived at the church to relief of everyone which fed the gossips material for days after!

Another excerpt from Petra’s autobiography that was quite disturbing, based on her true experience, when 15 yrs, being spotted by a film director which led her to be propositioned on the basis it would lead to be given a part in a film. this emulated what had been happening with the likes of Jimmy Saville and Rolf Harris. All quite scary for a young teenager. Needless to say she didn’t succumb to the situation at all. We put one or two suggestions to her which were well received.

Irene gave us an insight on her recent holiday, from illness to heat exhaustion and earthquakes and enjoyable times too! Again it created a picture of her holiday and the events which she and her husband experienced.

Brendon share the first  chapter of his book which was riveting and grabbed the imagination.  Some creative criticism was given again fully appreciated.

Such diverse writing was excellent and showed once again what a talented group of writers we are. Time was up and we finished on a note of reminding people about our upcoming anthology on Erdington and the time span for this. Dead line 31st August DON’T leave it to the minute please!!

Next meeting is the 20th July, 1.00 – 3.00 as usual in the Community Room at the Library of Erdington. See the NEW PROGRAMME for details.

About David Rollason

I am a writer, creative, inventive, observant, but the results are for you the reader to decide. There are things in my head constantly that I need to get out and into a readable form and this for now is my preferred medium. I am a simple being with complex workings. I am a complex being with simple logic. I am really just..... me.
